About BarbicanMums.com

Welcome! Barbican Mums is here to help create a local network for Mums (& Dads!) living in and around the Barbican Estate in the City of London.

Set up by a parent for other parents in the area the site aims to offer a wealth of information on all kinds of local resources and things to do with kids. From where the nearest ante-natal classes are and which are the closest hospitals to have your baby to details on nurseries, schools, playgroups and after-school activities in the Barbican area.

If you want to make the most of living in the City of London then look at the What's On pages for local events.

As well as being a source of information the site also aims to put local families in touch with each other via it's online community forum.

Why I set up Barbican Mums.com

Kate & FlorenceI first had the idea for BarbicanMums.com 5 years ago whilst looking for ante-natal classes in the local area. At that time I had no idea of what was available in the way of activities for pregnant women or those with small children in the City.

I certainly never expected to find so many other mothers and babies out and about during the 9 to 5 that I had been working, it was a whole world that I never knew existed.

Soon, I became a regular at Sure Start, singing with Harriette and baby massage and found out about the range of childcare options available in the area, invaluable for when I reluctantly returned to work after a very enjoyable maternity leave, during which I made lots of great new friends. However, at the time it occurred to me that there was no ‘one-stop shop’ to find out about all of these fantastic activities.

Intending to set up my own internet shop at the end of 2008, I took an evening class in web design before discovering that I was pregnant again! Any new business plans were put on hold, but keen to put my new-found skills to work I decided to create a place on the worldwide web where Barbican families could contact each other and discover what was available for them in the local area.

This website is run purely as a hobby, and is intended as a resource for everyone. I would be delighted to hear your opinions about the site - your likes and dislikes, and any ideas that you might have for improvements.

If you have any problems viewing the site then do please let me know.

Happy browsing!
